WINEMAKER'S NOTES

All the fruit for the 2011 Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon came from Mt. Brave and Veeder Peak Vineyards in the Northern part of the AVA. The Mt. Brave vineyard is famous for its rugged terrain and steep slopes, which require that all work in the vineyard be done by hand. High above the fog, it sits at between 1,400-1,800 feet, where nutrient poor, thin soils barely hold water, resulting in tiny berries with intense flavor yet soft tannins. While the Mt. Veeder AVA is cooler than most of Napa because of its elevation, it’s the first to see the early morning sun. This extended sun exposure helps ripen the tannins. This wine aged in French oak barrels for 19 months (91% new oak).
