Cocchi Americano is a classic Italian aperitif wine (a type of aromatic, fortified wine) that’s been made since 1891 in the Asti province of Piedmont, Italy by the historic producer Giulio Cocchi Spumanti. It’s crafted by aromatizing a Moscato di Asti white wine base with a blend of herbs, spices, and botanicals — notably gentian, cinchona bark, bitter orange peel, wormwood, elderflower, and other aromatics — then lightly fortified, giving it an alcohol content around 16.5% ABV.
